Recently, the renowned actress and host of a show on a private TV channel Nadia Khan shared her experience of being a victim of organized trolling campaigns. Speaking on the comedy show Hansna Mana Hai, she disclosed that paid social media campaigns targeted her to damage her TV shows and undermine her popularity. Khan said that these campaigns were set up to ensure that her shows failed as other channels allegedly invested money in those efforts.
As Nadia Khan looks back on her journey, she said she no longer gets affected by criticism, especially from older viewers who recall watching her since childhood. She laughed off an incident when an elderly man nostalgically mentioned watching her since he was young. His mother even worked with her in radio, so Nadia was both shocked and amused.
Nadia’s show, in which she criticizes TV dramas, has picked up very well. Actors, directors, and producers watch her reviews in real time, though some feel a bit offended. The show, according to Nadia, has been pretty beneficial to the industry; drama quality has improved and all this is because she targets more on directors and producers and sometimes channel owners.
During the interview, Nadia also mentioned that organized trolling was funded just to ruin her image and sabotage her shows. She said how during Ramadan, when her show was aired, friends told her money was being spent on social media just to spread negative comments about her. Such things, she said, have become normal with rival channels often financing campaigns to disrupt successful shows.
Despite the fact that there were suggestions that she should spend money fighting online negativity, Nadia refused to spend money on fighting negativity. She brought out the existence of these tactics but did not name any individual or organization behind them.
