Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz demanded diplomacy between the two countries of India and Pakistan to resolve deteriorating smog. Speaking at a Diwali event in Lahore, she said both the Punjabs needed to work together on ways of controlling pollution, especially since Lahore recently recorded an alarmingly high Air Quality Index of 707, making it the world’s most polluted city. Generally, AQI standards classify values above 300 as hazardous and those exceeding 700 as extremely dangerous, indicating very serious air quality problems that may lead to severe health problems.
She emphasised that joint efforts can make a huge difference in lowering the level of pollution, which poses a threat to millions of people on both sides of the border. She stressed that cooperation is the only way to protect citizens from the adverse effects of winter air pollution, which seems to worsen each year.

For the festival of Diwali, she unveiled financial aid packages for the needy families as goodwill gestures and minorities support within Pakistan, where 15,000 PKR went to 1,400 families.
Maryam’s vision is a balanced approach, and she has shown understanding of both environmental and social challenges, and her commitment to building a more inclusive and healthier Pakistan.
