Tribute to Cadet Arif Ullah:
The 19-year-old hero who stood at his post at the Lakki Marwat mosque protecting worshipers
In a selfless act of bravery, a 19-year-old Cadet Arif Ullah, who was briefly on leave from the Pakistan Military Academy, sacrificed his life while saving the lives of others who were offering evening prayers at a Lakki Marwat mosque when terrorists launched an attack. Present there for the prayers, Arif confronted the militants who attacked the mosque and fought them back in an attempt to keep others away.
This young cadet reflects the deep, courageous commitment of Pakistan’s youth and military. This final act of service at his end reminds us that resilience and bravery stand as a bulwark against the forces of violence. And that strength is through selflessness and courage.
A Nation Salutes This Young Hero
Arif Ullah’s legacy will survive as an inspiration of valour and sacrifice. At times of bereavement both for his family and by the nation, the fact that his story will illustrate the selfless spirit to which Pakistan’s armed forces subscribe makes it a legend among legends. Cadet Arif’s actions in Lakki Marwat will survive forever as a heroic action of sacrifice, one where lives were saved and the sanctity of a place of worship was defended.
