ISLAMABAD — Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa enters the final phase of his tenure as he will now start chamber work today focusing on writing judgments and is expected to retire this Friday, October 25. Sources say the chief justice has now stopped attending courtroom hearings to focus on getting his judgments ready.
Second most senior judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has been assigned Courtroom No.1 which is seen as a transition where soon retiring Chief justice will be replaced by this reflected leadership in judiciary. Cases will be assigned to a new bench which Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin form part of. Unfortunately, Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s bench (consisting of Justices Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Shahid Bilal) is not likely to be sitting together again anytime soon as the
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa is going to say goodbye from the Supreme Court but he has passed many Mango Declaration and Commission Reports. His leadership of the judiciary is often hailed for its impartiality and openness. But his last year remains very controversial, as the PTI accusation that he remains biased against PTI and the reference to the PTI intraparty case and many more cases against PTI came from the Qazi Faez Issa court.
The move comes as the parliamentary committee is due to meet later on Tuesday to discuss three senior judges whose names have been proposed for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan. During the Regional Names List Committee Meeting, chaired by a representative of Parliament and Senate, only one name from this list will be chosen to send to the Prime Minister, who in turn makes that recommendation for approval through formal process at government level.
