Islamabad High Court summons former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan today at 3 PM. This follows a petition on the banning of meetings between Imran Khan and his lawyers in jail, in alleged violation of an earlier court order permitting such meetings.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan further asked questions over the legitimacy of the government to stop such meetings. He pointed out that even in the case of the issuance of such a notification, it cannot be substituted for a directive of the court. The judge also threw a question over the violation of the court order when the people responsible for blocking these meetings might be liable for contempt of court.

The prison superintendent and state counsel justified the banning as being due to the law-and-order situation. However, Justice Ejaz said that no justification could be provided for banning the meeting of lawyers. He directed the Ministry of Interior to furnish a report about its security concerns.
Imran Khan’s lawyers alleged that they were denied the right to meet their client since 3rd October, when they requested the same, and the court ordered the jail superintendent to produce Imran Khan in court before 3 PM today while ensuring his meeting with counsel.
Justice Ejaz clears instructions to the effect that in case the authorities fail to obey, they would be required to furnish a valid reason before the court. He expounded that the security arrangements should be made and the orders of the court must be obeyed.
