Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and a revered time for its devotees, is expected to start either on Friday, February 28, or Saturday, March 1, 2025. This start date corresponds to the normal eleven-day exceptional advancement in the Gregorian calendar, a year after the last occurrence of the event in question. This advancement is realized as the period of Ramadan is based on the Islamic lunar calendar which is 10 to 12 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar.
Ramadan is a known sacred month that is dedicated to fasting, prayer and communal gathering for all the Muslim people the world over. Fasting in the day time is one of the five pillars of Islam and it is a practice of spiritual growth, self control and charity. Each year the of Ramadan is keenly awaited since it is dependent on the sighting of the moon and calculations are never used.
In the year of 2025, Ramadhan will again observe its yearly move towards the south onwards through a longitudinal axis, creeping up to the cold season months for the countries under the Northern latitudes. This shift affects the fasting hours changing them to a better height than when it was summer for Ramadan in the previous years.
