England have made two changes for the third Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Gus Atkinson and spinner Rehan Ahmed have come into the side ahead of the third match in Rawalpindi. Rehan, Shoaib Bashir, and Jack Leach make it three spinners as England take on Pakistan for the third Test.
This decision illustrates that the surface in Rawalpindi will support spin bowling. To the point where England batsman Harry Brook suggested that while the surface is still firm, it may start to break early on, making life hard for the batsmen deep into the rearguard.
Two years ago, in a match against Pakistan, Rehan Ahmed was a newcomer, but he had a five-wicket haul, turning the match in England’s favor as it won the match. After this, he played two matches in a couple of series against India, and this year has not been seen anyway in the squad. Now, he has returned, looking forward to a challenge.
With the inclusion of three spinners, things can become a bit of a risk. If the conditions of the pitch do not allow for fast bowlers or spinners to be effective, it may be catastrophic for the English team. Only two fast bowlers will be available in the person of captain Ben Stokes, and it may pose a challenge if the spin does not deliver as expected.
To have a record like this, I have to say that the last time they were here, the English team scored an incredible 657 runs in over 100 overs. Judging by the weather this time round, especially with what the team has been saying, England seems to be preparing for a much tougher contest.
