During the heated session at the Islamabad District Court, Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, expressed her frustration while saying, “Only injustice happens here; now I will not come to this court.” She made these remarks while she and Imran Khan were appearing in court on a bail application in a case in which they are being charged for allegedly fraudulent receipts.

The court called for case hearings on bail of themselves as well as a scan on six other independent cases of Imran Khan. Led by Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal, Bushra Bibi faced a pretty grave emotional outburst today in the courtroom, showing she was actually more stressed over the duration of the hearing and what looked like an outright refusal of justice. A note later described as follows: “She says she had been presenting herself again and again since her name appeared in this case but to no avail; hope to seek justice not yet achieved”. She said she was ready to accept imprisonment if need be and visibly shaken by the current proceedings.

Attorney of Bushra Bibi Salman Safdar said that the allegations were not based on concrete evidence and the officials were taking the case for their political benefits. “Since nearly two years of this process has been conducted, till date, no clear evidence has been found or proven,” he said. The lawyer also added that even though Bushra Bibi attended more than a dozen hearings, the authorities could not prove any offense.

A bench headed by Chief Judge Muhammad Afzal further questioned the prosecution with the question of why in the wake of extended investigations no valid proof had emerged of the alleged fraudulent receipts. The judge said: “If there is no substantial evidence, the further delay may appear to be unjustified.”.

The court has set the next date for November 18 and has directed Imran Khan to appear before it through video link. The case has received much public attention as many are waiting for the final decision of the court, which will have long-term consequences for both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
