Six Missing Baloch Students Return Home from Karachi

Six Baloch students are released, two still missing
On October 16, eight Baloch students disappeared from their house in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar. The incident gave serious concern to the family and academic circles. However, nearly a week later, six of the missing students-Ashfaq, Shehzad, Bibarg Ameer, Zubair, Qambar Ali, and Saeedullah-have safely returned home. Their families say that the police in Awaran, Balochistan, have released them at around 1 a.m. Still, two students, Shoaib and Hanif, are missing.

Legal Action and Public Reaction
Anguished over their disappearance, families approached the Sindh High Court for redress through law. The court ordered the senior police officers to arrange for safe recovery of students by November 4 in case any other action would be taken.
Parents claimed that all the students present at the tuition academy near NIPA did not have any political activism and were not involved in any suspicious activities.

Protests erupted at the University of Karachi. Students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff came out on the streets demanding justice for the missing students. Organized by the Progressive Students Alliance, the rally aimed to highlight the issue of enforced disappearances. The rally ended with demands for the release of all missing students immediately.

What is next?
Advocates for the safe return of Shoaib and Hanif, students whose families and friends are concerned with their safety. This incidence has given the issue of safety among the students much greater dimensions while demanding transparency in all their affairs. All these supporters and the academicians are waiting to hear something from the court on approaching the deadline by Sindh High Court.
